Songwa Estates

Strong Alliance for Africa

Interest in the origin of green coffee is growing. Particularly African coffee has a lot of unused potential. In the Songwa Farm Project in the Great Rift Valley three companies experienced in the coffee market have come together to cultivate green coffee in Tanzania.

With the Songwa project, a very good partnership that has existed for many years has now developed into a joint company.

Probat, a producer of coffee roasting machines, equipment and plants based in Emmerich in Germany, the company Mahlkönig, a producer of grinders from Hamburg, Germany, and the Italian company La Marzocco, an espresso machine producer from Florence, will jointly operate on a leasing basis the coffee farm Songwa in Tanzania, East Africa beginning on 1 September 2007.

The vision of the project is to bring people to coffee origins in a meaningful way, to expose them more closely to the intricacies of growing, processing and marketing of green coffee in developing countries in a manner that goes well beyond what can be experienced during a brief farm visit. All three companies believe that this is an important service to offer their employees, their clients and to other members of the industry as well, and that to accomplish these goals, it is necessary to be involved with the running and management of a coffee farm over an extended period of time.
