Green coffee as well as roasted or ground coffee is temporarily stored in silos. The typical kind of silo for green and roasted coffee is a cylindrical multi-cell silo, which has several chambers (cells) with a circular-segmented base area arranged around a central axis. Depending on their size and the number of grades to be stored, cell silos have a holding capacity of 1-100 tons. Bin silos, whose cells have a rectangular base area and are arranged next to one another in an ideal space-saving way, are particularly useful for storing large quantities. Green or roasted coffee of a certain grade is stored in a respective cell. Such silos are filled using special equipment: The cell silo is fed via a rotary pipe distributor whereby a single intake nozzle can be assigned to several discharge nozzles.
