DUST EXTRACTION

Under certain conditions, fine solid particles distributed in the air can ignite and turn initially harmless dust clouds into flash flames and explosive pressure waves. To prevent plants and entire buildings from being destroyed in this way, and possibly people from being harmed, appropriate explosion protection measures must be observed. Country-specific legal requirements, such as the ATEX Directive, regulate the mandatory treatment of various gases, vapors and dusts that can occur in exhaust air purification and dedusting systems. In the coffee processing process, dust collection systems are indispensable, since the combustible organic dust present here in explosive concentrations, in combination with a sufficient quantity of oxygen as well as an effective ignition source, can trigger a possible dust explosion. The dust extraction system is installed inside the green coffee plant. Here PROBAT offers different systems, which are perfectly tailored to the respective requirements within the green coffee processing. The design is always based on project-specific conditions and requirements.

PROBAT dust extraction systems operate on the principle of pressure relief, which minimizes the effects of a possible dust explosion. A fan generates the negative pressure by which the dust-laden air is sucked out of the pipe network and fed into a filter system. Here, the air is first introduced into a filter chamber where coarse particles (size >10 μm) are sorted out by means of a filter hose and directed downward into a dust bucket. In the subsequent fine filter, smaller particles (size 1 to 10 μm) are separated in the next process step. Depending on requirements, an additional HEPA filter can be installed to collect even finer particles (size < 1 μm).
